24 Hours BACH
►[House Program] 24 Hours BACH
Since 2022, Weiwuying has launched the 24 Hours Series, a full day of non-stop performances dedicated to a single classical composer. This year, it's finally the turn of one of the most celebrated figures in Baroque music: Johann Sebastian BACH, a composer whose works have captivated generations of musicians and music lovers long after his time.
Why the emphasis on "generations after his time"? Born in Germany in 1685, Johann Sebastian BACH was renowned during his lifetime primarily as an organist. Though he also held prestigious roles, such as Kapellmeister (director of music), and composed over a thousand works, such productivity was considered typical for Baroque-era composers. It wasn't until 1829, when Felix MENDELSSOHN conducted the St. Matthew Passion in Berlin, that the world truly discovered the purity and spiritual brilliance of BACH's music.
From that moment, the revival of BACH's music began, and his works became essential listening and performing repertoire across the world. On March 14, 2026, Weiwuying celebrates BACH's enduring legacy with an unforgettable day-long musical journey. Starting with some of his most iconic organ works, the program spans a vibrant range of interpretations, from historically informed performances, chamber music, and solo recitals, to bold cross-genre reinventions featuring jazz ensemble, saxophone ensemble, a cappella, traditional Chinese instruments, and even electronic music. Spread across the Concert Hall, Recital Hall, and public spaces, the celebration will only grow wilder and more exhilarating as the hours go by, inviting everyone to dive into the joyful madness of BACH!
