[2026 International Forum and Workshop on Creative Engagement] Professional Development Workshops––Session I
English National Ballet: Training in Dance for Health and Inclusive Practices
This training workshop focuses on cultivating local artists / instructors in inclusive dance practice and serves as a valuable reference for those developing inclusive arts programmes. Grounded in the philosophy of English National Ballet's Dance for Health initiative, workshops will demonstrate how to utilise dance as a tool for physical and mental well-being and for strengthening community connections. Content is specifically designed for older adults and for those living with Dementia and/or Parkinson's and their caregivers.
The training integrates elements of ballet and contemporary dance to improve coordination,balance, and posture while fostering joy and a sense of belonging. Participants will learn how to guide people with differing needs, develop inclusive sessions, and create a safe and supportive environment for interaction, emphasising mind-body coordination, social connection, and artistic engagement.
The workshop also facilitates the exchange of experiences and pedagogical approaches among arts educators, encouraging them to integrate dance into everyday life to enhance well-being, strengthen social participation, and build sustainable models of inclusive arts practice.

Target Participants: Individuals interested in a person-centred approach to working with older adults and those living with long term health conditions such as Parkinson's and Dementia through dance and live improvised music. This training is primarily suitable for dance artists and teachers leading Dance for
Parkinson's and Dance for Dementia classes. We also welcome musicians delivering in this context, educators, health professionals (e.g. occupational therapists, rehabilitation specialists, social workers) and creative producers / curators of inclusive and creative participation projects.
Note: This will be a practical workshop with a focus on dance and movement. All individuals joining will be expected to participate whether you have a dance background or not.
Language: English with consecutive Mandarin interpretation

Laura Harvey (Head of Creative Programmes, English National Ballet)
Laura is Head of Creative Programmes in the Engagement team at English National Ballet (ENB), responsible for the management of high-quality, artistic, engagement programmes including ENB's Dance for Health strand, artist development and several flagship performance projects. Her work on Dance for Parkinson's involves managing the national programme and curating specialist training for the associate artist team and volunteers. Laura's work for people living with dementia is focused on evolving the engagement of participants in community settings, care homes, hospitals and at ENB's studios in East London.
Laura is a proactive leader with a deep-rooted commitment to engage people in the arts, championing inclusivity and opportunity for all, through high-quality artistic practice.
Reina Okada (Associate Musician, English National Ballet)
Reina is a London-based pianist and Royal Academy of Music graduate, celebrated for her musical sensitivity and fluent improvisation. She works with leading dance companies. Reina has been an associate musician with English National Ballet (ENB) since 2017, working extensively with ENB's Engagement Department as a specialist artist for Dance for Dementia Dance for Parkinson's and more recently, Dance for Parkinson's Performance Company, creating compositions for performances. Reina also performs live accompaniment for ENB's elders and youth dance companies, Ballet Club and online platform BalletActive.
She is also an experienced collaborative pianist and has released albums in the UK and USA, including one that won an Independent Music Award.
Kate Hartley-Stevens (Dance artist, English National Ballet)
Kate Hartley-Stevens is a dance artist, teacher, producer, and yoga instructor. Trained in classical ballet at the English National Ballet School, she has built a career working with people of all ages and abilities, focusing on those living with Parkinson's and dementia. With over twelve years' experience working as a specialist artist for English National Ballet's Dance Health programmes including Dance for Parkinson's, Kate now leads ENB's Dance for Parkinson's Performance Company co-creating dance works for performance.
Kate's aim is to inspire and challenge: to develop body awareness and strength while nurturing creativity, confidence, and social connection through dance.
